Description
Situated in the city of Cascais, Portugal, the Tower of St. Sebastian, currently the Library-Museum Counts of Castro Guimarães, was built in the beginning of the twentieth century and ordered by the aristocrat George O'Neil. An outstanding work of romantic architecture, the Tower of S. Sebastian fascinates one by the mix of styles and a mystic atmosphere and takes one back to times gone by. The Chapel of St. Sebastian, part of the Museum’s property, was reportedly built in the early seventeenth century. It has a considerable tile collection, of which the earliest examples date back to the seventeenth century, highlighting the full lining of the cradle vault of the chancel. Four panels representing the life of St. Sebastian were applied to the walls of the nave in the twentieth century.
