About the old bridge: situated on the river Marnel, in the village of Lamas do Vouga, in the municipality of Agueda, this five-arch bridge was probably built in the first half of the fourteenth century, then becoming known as 'new Marnel bridge', which suggests the existence of an earlier bridge in the same river. This bridge was undergoing repairs and reconstructions over the centuries. This bridge, classified as a cultural heritage building in 1956, was part of the road that linked the city of Porto and the north of Portugal to the city of Coimbra, closely following the old Roman road.
